Magnificent Merlins in our Midst

It’s not easy photographing a merlin in flight.
This one was caught nicely by David Drummond.

Sometimes the unexpected is hard to spot. At the beach, Marv Breece noted the Caspian Terns (one at top center), California Gulls (right edge), Bonaparte’s Gulls (three in a triangle, lower left), and Common Terns (amongst the Bonaparte’s). What he didn’t notice until looking closely at the photos was the Forster’s Tern, about half-way between the two rightmost Bonaparte’s.
